Kitchen Apron Fabrics: Find the Most Suitable Fabric for a Chef's Apron

An apron is the most abused textile in the kitchen. It is the first to meet splashing oil, sauce, and flour; it becomes the place where hands are wiped and is washed almost daily. In a cafe, restaurant, or boutique bakery, the apron is also the most visible piece of the brand. Both the striped apron behind a barista station and the black apron in an open kitchen tell a story to the guest.

In this guide, we introduce the fabric types in our Kitchen Apron Fabrics collection, compare them with one another, and explain which one should be preferred for which business or task. You can find all patterns and colors on our collection page.

What to Consider When Choosing Kitchen Apron Fabric?

  • Stiffness (Body): A good apron does not stick to the body and stands straight and upright. Heavy fabrics with low drape maintain the apron's form, and pockets do not sag.
  • Durability: Straps, waist ties, and pocket openings are constantly pulled. Thick, tightly woven fabrics are more resistant to tearing and wear at these points.
  • Protection: The apron’s job is to protect the clothing underneath. Thick and tightly woven fabrics delay liquid from seeping through to the garment below.
  • Proximity to Heat: For use near stoves and ovens, we recommend fabrics with a high cotton ratio. Cotton breathes and does not melt at high temperatures. Fabrics with a high polyester content may melt when in contact with extreme heat.
  • Easy Care: Aprons are washed almost daily. Fabrics that retain their color and pattern and are easy to iron save time in the long run.
  • Fabric Width: An apron is a large, straight piece cut from fabric. As the fabric width increases, more efficient cutting can be achieved from a meter; this difference reflects in the cost for mass production.

Our Kitchen Apron Fabric Types

1. Solid Color Fabrics

Solid color kitchen apron fabrics: royal blue, beige, mustard yellow and brick fabrics and black apron

A simple and professional apron is the easiest way to wear your brand's color. A black apron is a classic for open kitchens and modern restaurants; mustard, brick, and earth tones create a warm look in cafes. We offer two different fabric families for solid-colored aprons: cotton-blend solid duck and poly-viscose fabrics.

Solid Duck

Solid duck fabric mustard

The solid-colored version of the same stiff, matte, and cotton-heavy structure as our patterned ducks. It keeps the apron upright, and pockets do not sag. It does not wrinkle during use; it may wrinkle slightly after washing, but it straightens easily with a warm iron. With a wide width of 180 cm, it is the most efficient fabric for apron cutting among the solid options. Thanks to its cotton content, it is the most suitable among solid fabrics for working by the stove.

  • Weight / Width: 215 g/m² / 180 cm
