Frequently Asked Questions

Paraşüt what is fabric?

Parachute fabric is a technical outerwear fabric woven with thin but high-strength synthetic yarns, which is completely waterproof and windproof thanks to special coating processes.

The main characteristics of this fabric group are its low drape, voluminous feel, and taffeta-like wrinkled-puffy surface effect.

Parachute fabrics are not defined by their soft or stiff feel. On the contrary, despite being entirely thin, they exhibit shape-retaining behavior, do not cling to the body, and gain volume with air. This characteristic makes them indispensable for protective outerwear such as raincoats, jackets, and windbreakers.

Key Properties of Parachute Fabric

- All types are waterproof and windproof. This is a constant main characteristic of parachute fabric.

- It has low drape and exhibits a form-retaining rather than fluid structure.

- It appears thin but voluminous, creating a taffeta-like, puffy and wrinkled surface effect.

- It doesn't stick to the body; it gains volume with air.

- It dries quickly and doesn't retain moisture.

- It is durable and tear-resistant.

Types of Parachute Fabrics (According to Surface and Texture)

Shiny Parachute Fabric

- Its surface reflects light, giving it a vibrant appearance.

- It creates a modern effect in sports and technical outerwear.

- It is frequently preferred in raincoats and windbreakers.

Matte Parachute Fabric

- It offers a calmer and more technical surface.

- Suitable for city wear and minimalist designs.

- It is more tolerant of showing dirt and marks.

Gabardine Textured Parachute Fabric

- It has a distinct linear texture on its surface.

- It offers a more structured look compared to classic parachute fabric.

- It is preferred in coats, jackets, and more "stylish" outerwear designs.

Oxford Textured Parachute Fabric

- It has a more distinctive, woven, and technical surface.

- It has high durability.

- It stands out in products designed for outdoor and heavy-duty use.

Raincoat & Windbreaker: Creates a water and wind barrier.
Jackets & Coats: Provide bulky but lightweight outerwear.
Outdoor Products: Camping, trekking and technical use.
Protective Clothing: Field and workwear applications.
Stage and costume: Used in sets due to its seemingly broken structure, and in capes due to its thin and voluminous texture.

Why is Paraşüt fabric preferred?

All types are waterproof and windproof.

Despite its slim design, it is voluminous and shape-retaining.

Its taffeta-like, wrinkled, puffy appearance adds character to outerwear.

Glossy, matte, and textured surface options provide flexibility in design.

Fabrics like gabardine and oxford offer an alternative aesthetic to classic parachute fabric.

Does it pull?

Since it is a 100% natural fabric, it may shrink, attention should be paid to the first wash. If possible, the first wash should be done before sewing.

Does it wrinkle? Can it be ironed?

Since it is a natural fabric, it wrinkles especially after washing. Although it does not wrinkle as much as Linen in daily use, it will wrinkle enough to require ironing again when taken out of the suitcase.

What are the care instructions?

Bleach Should Not Be Used
